Deflection
Meeting people where they are, before system involvement
The Deflection division promotes hope and recovery by connecting individuals and families to care before they enter the criminal legal system.
In partnership with law enforcement, first responders, and treatment providers, Deflection specialists meet people where they are. They engage individuals facing substance use, mental health challenges, or homelessness and provide a warm handoff to community-based recovery, harm reduction, and support services.
Local collaborations guide each program, tailoring deflection efforts to the most pressing needs of the community. This upstream approach interrupts cycles of substance use and justice involvement by offering pathways to healing and stability rather than punishment.
