A New Name, A New Look, and a Stronger TASC
This post was written by Dion McGill, TASC’s Director of Communications and Marketing. Dion reached his two year anniversary with TASC on December 18 and contributed to the development of the organization’s refreshed identity and updated communications strategy.
A new year always brings a sense of renewal. It is a natural moment to take a breath, look at where we have been, and decide how we want to move forward. For TASC, that feeling could not be more present right now. We are stepping into this year with a refreshed look, a clearer voice, and a name that better reflects who we are today.
TASC’s name has evolved over time, just as the world around us has evolved. When the organization was founded, we were known as Treatment Alternatives to Street Crimes, a name rooted in the language and mindset of the 1970s. As the work matured, so did the name. We became Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, reflecting a shift toward community-centered support and connection. Today, TASC has grown even further, and our reach and purpose require a name that matches the work happening every day across Illinois.
Our new name, Treatment Alternatives for Stronger Communities, reflects the heart of what we do. It centers people, connection, and empowerment. It speaks to the strength we help build every day through Specialized Case Management™, community partnerships, and the countless moments when someone needs a path forward. Stronger Communities is not just a name. It is our purpose.
This change comes with a new logo and brand identity that honors our history while embracing our future. The updated look feels modern, warm, and grounded. It reflects the real TASC. The TASC that meets people where they are. The TASC that builds bridges across systems. The TASC that listens and shows up. The TASC that stands beside communities working for a better tomorrow.
And while our name and visual identity have evolved, the core of who we are has not changed. We are still the organization people call when they need help navigating complex systems. We are still the partner that communities rely on. We are still committed to supporting people affected by substance use, mental health challenges, and justice involvement. We are still the TASC that believes in second chances and stronger futures.
This rebrand reflects growth, not departure. It reflects a TASC that understands the world has shifted and that our language and presence must shift with it. It also reflects pride in what has stayed steady since 1976. Compassion. Advocacy. Partnership. Belief in people. Belief in community. Belief in change.
As we enter this next chapter, we invite you to explore our new look and stay connected as we continue to build stronger communities across Illinois and beyond. There is a lot of work ahead, and we are ready for it.
