CHICAGO, May 5, 2026 – Treatment Alternatives for Stronger Communities (TASC) has appointed
Steven Crockett as chief financial officer. Crockett brings more than two decades of financial leadership to TASC programs that bridge community healthcare and the criminal legal system. His experience across corporate technology and nonprofit care will guide TASC’s financial strategy as the organization scales its regional health-justice infrastructure.
Crockett arrives at TASC following a tenure as chief financial officer for Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care, a $40 million nonprofit healthcare organization. Crockett previously managed financials for software-as-a-service business units at IBM and SPSS. The tech industry veteran led due diligence for multiple corporate mergers and acquisitions, building forecasting models for revenue streams exceeding $100 million.
“Steven brings the requisite experience, ingenuity and forethought to help TASC advance into our next 50 years,” TASC President and CEO Joel Johnson said. “As TASC moves in new directions and explores M&A opportunities, Steven brings an attention to detail, allowing the organization to act with less strain and high strategic precision.”
Scaling the Center for Health and Justice
In addition to managing TASC’s operations, Crockett assumes financial oversight for the Center for Health and Justice (CHJ), TASC’s national consulting division. CHJ provides technical assistance to public health and safety systems nationwide. Crockett’s background in SaaS pricing strategy and post-merger profitability will directly support CHJ’s national expansion.
Crockett plans to tighten financial reporting and modernize operational infrastructure during his initial months. Crockett’s technology background positions the new chief financial officer to translate financial complexity into clear, data-driven decisions for TASC stakeholders.
“My immediate priority is tightening our financial reporting to ensure TASC remains agile and audit-ready,” Crockett said. “Bridging health care and the legal system requires immense operational discipline. I look forward to applying my corporate finance and technology background to build sustainable models for TASC’s health-justice initiatives.”
Managing Complex Public Capital
TASC relies on a complex mix of public contracts, philanthropic grants and government reimbursements to fund community interventions. Crockett possesses deep expertise in grant-funded environments. Before his corporate tenure, Crockett managed finance operations for behavioral health and social service programs at Lutheran Social Services, overseeing government reimbursement, regulatory reporting and grant compliance.
At Lightways Hospice, Crockett optimized Medicare and Medicaid revenue cycles, improving clean claims and lowering unbilled receivables by about $250,000 per month. Such financial rigor ensures TASC partners and funders will see measurable returns on public investments.
Crockett holds a bachelor of science in finance from DePaul University and a financial accounting certificate from Harvard Business School. Crockett serves on the board of directors for St. Jude House, supporting organizational governance and financial sustainability for a domestic violence prevention program in Crown Point, Indiana.
