Mercedes Mondragón, MPAff

As director of policy, Mercedes Mondragón leads statewide and national public policy activities for TASC and its Center for Health and Justice (CHJ). In this capacity, she oversees the organization's policy and advocacy initiatives regarding the justice system, public health, and racial/social justice efforts; monitors and analyzes introduced bills at the state and federal levels; and works with government officials and community stakeholders to enact policies to create a more fair and sensible justice system.

Mercedes brings experience in nonprofit and government sectors, working most recently in the Illinois Governor’s Office as a policy advisor. There she managed a human services portfolio comprised of seven state agencies including the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IDHA), Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), and Department of Human Services (DHS) and successfully advocated in the state legislature for policies seeking to reduce housing and employment barriers for people with criminal records. She has also led criminal justice and reentry efforts for the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. 

Mercedes received her BA in sociology & Latina/o studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her master of public affairs (MPAff) from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.
